Quiet buildings, drawn to outlast us.

Pale concrete building rising against a clear sky

Hollis Maar is a practice of 34 architects designing homes, schools and public rooms across northern Europe.

We are a practice of architects, landscape designers and model makers. We take on few projects, stay with each one from the first site walk to the last snag list, and we care most about what a building feels like in its fortieth winter.

Architectural drawings and a scale rule on the studio table
  • Start with the ground

We walk every site in each season before drawing a single wall.

  • Build for repair

Materials that age well and joints that can be opened again in fifty years.

  • Daylight first

Plans are organised around where the light falls, not around the corridor.

  • Draw with the user

Teachers, librarians and residents sit at our table from the first sketch.
