How we shipView the roadmapAboutMade for humans
Etchedy started inside a web studio that kept rebuilding the same sections for every client. Today it's a design system with 753 patterns and 50 brand kits, and we still use it on our own client work every week.
Every client wanted something unique. Every project started with the same hero, the same pricing table and the same footer, rebuilt by hand. So we stopped rebuilding and started a system.
We are early adopters of EtchWP, and in January 2026 we began building patterns for it for our own client work: a hero, then a pricing table, then a footer. Each one built properly, on ACSS tokens, with a real structure and nothing hard-coded. Before long, the folder was getting hard to ignore.
Around the patterns we built a design system and gave it a name: Etchit. It was meant to become an application of its own. Then we said the name out loud. Etch it. Now say it faster. Turns out nobody wants to buy something that sounds like that, and nobody wants to say it in a client meeting. The name went in the bin. The system stayed. Lol, the name played reverse creativity on us. Ah, and do not try to register that domain name, it has been taken since 1997 (thanks, Paul).
The first patterns were made one at a time, by hand, tens of them. Then we added automation and a strict set of rules every pattern has to pass before it ships: tokens instead of hard-coded values, responsive from phone to desktop, accessible by default. Same standard, far more speed.
Along the way we built NibWP, and it took over. Etchedy went on hold while NibWP got our full attention. The patterns did not go anywhere. They just waited.
In September we decided it was time to release Etchedy: a plugin for EtchWP that works right inside the editor, built with agency needs and requirements in mind. Patterns you can drop in, tokens that follow your brand, and a library that keeps growing every week.
As early adopters of EtchWP, we owe you a thank you, Kevin Geary. EtchWP is a masterpiece, and ACSS is the solid CSS framework underneath everything we build. Together they gave us back the feeling we lost somewhere in the last decade: the pure joy of making things for the web.
